She is the younger sister of Indian supermodel Ujjwala Raut.She modelled for Kingfisher Calendar in 2010 posing for some quiet exotic frames.

In 2014 she modeled for Maxim. She will be making her acting debut in Hindi film by the name ' The Xpose' starring Himesh Reshmiya and Honey Singh, along with another new actress Zoya Afroz.

Cat fight between Zoya Afroz and Sonali Raut turned out to be the new gossip in the B-Town. According to the media reports Zoya Afroz slapped Sonali when both of came together to promote their film 'The xpose' on Comedy Nights with Kapil. However Zoya Afroz clarified and said she and Sonali did have a catfight, but only in the film. This controversy also highlighted because both Zoya and Sonali did not come together for the promotion after that incident.

Sonali Raut is best known as the face of cosmetics giant, MAC in India. Also now she's been the talk of the town for the raunchy ad campaign with actor Ranveer Singh.

She has starred in big campaigns for Wipro, Shikakai, Damas and Pantaloon. She is also the face of PC Chandra Jewelers and MAC Cosmetics. She has also featured in television campaigns such as Idea (with Abhishek Bachchan), Siyaram (with Neil Nitin Mukesh), Iball, Seemati Sarees. 

Her new movie The Xpose revolves around a death that takes place in a fivestar hotel after a gltizy awards night. It is the trigger for the film's narrator, Alec D'Costa, played by Irrfan Khan, to expose the dark underbelly of the Hindi film industry and unmask its larger-than-life superstars. Sonali is playing a character named Zara in the film which is inspired by Zeenat Amaan.
